Head-on Collision Kills Wrong-Way Driver in Santa Ana

Santa Ana, California – At approximately 5:30 am on Sunday, February 10, a van that was heading in the wrong direction on a Santa Ana street collided with a pickup truck.

Evidence suggests the white Toyota Van was traveling west in the eastbound lanes of Warner Ave. when it collided head-on with a Gold Toyota Tundra pickup near Oak Street.

Both vehicles sustained major damage to their front ends. Emergency responders transported both drivers to Orange County Global Medical Center.

The female driver of the van was rushed into emergency surgery but later died at the hospital. Police have not released her name.  The driver of the pickup, a 62-year-old Santa Ana man, sustained moderate injuries. There were no other reported injuries or passengers involved.

Police suspect alcohol may have played a role in the crash, however, investigators did not further elaborate.
